Hi!  My name is Kim Sweeney, and I’m so excited to be teaching second grade again this year!

      I was born and raised in Montgomery County.  I graduated from Seneca Valley High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Towson State University.  

      This will be my 24th year working for MCPS.  During these years I have taught 1st and 3rd grades, reading initiative (grades 1 and 2), ESOL (K-5), and adult education.  I have been a technology trainer and a home and hospital instructor for the county as well.

      When I’m not at school, I like to spend time with my husband, Jimmy, our three children, Megan (17), Emma (15), and Colin (13), and our rescue pup, Grady!  We like to canoe and kayak, go to Nats games, and spend time outdoors.  I also love to read, cook, travel to new places, and work in my garden!

      I’m so looking forward to getting to know each and every one of my students and their families this year!  It is my goal to foster a love of learning and a community of respect within our classroom so that students look forward to coming to school each day!
